Shabby Valentine Heart for Any Time

Make a shabby heart for Valentine's or any time. I saw one similar and I just had to make it, today. It was so much fun and turned out adorable. There weren't any instructions with the one I saw, and I had done similar smaller ones before so I just winged it.

I cut a heart-shaped pattern, then I used it to cut a heart-shaped piece of cardboard (only thing I had on hand was an empty cracker box and those work fine) and used this as the base. Then I cut a heart-shape from the pretty vintage-style rose and French lettered paper that I use for journal-making and glued it to the base.

In digging around for lace in my scrap box I actually found a heart-shaped doily that I didn't even remember having. You can imagine my delight. I had already cut out a piece of heart-shaped lace (a little large than the pattern so that it had a border hanging off the edges of the heart) and when I lay the lace on top of the doily, it was perfect! I glued them to the back of the heart.

The design was then complete and it was time to decorate (the fun part). I went through my flowers and laces and such laying things out, keeping or discarding, trying more, until I settled on the right pieces and a design in which to arrange them (best to do that before you start gluing in case something looks off because you can't change it afterward, speaking from experience here). The top right flower in the beige lace, I made. Just wound the lace around itself, overlapping and hot-gluing as I went, then added the bling in the center. The other flowers I had; the white one in the lower left, I had crocheted a while back, adding a vintage jewel.

Additionally I made little tufts of lace to tuck in beneath the main two flower sections. Then I added small silk roses and tiny silk roses and flowers along with some cut lace designs and a few pearls. There is a pale beige off-centered small bow to complete the heart.

Love, love, love this shabby heart. I made it to decorate for Valentine's but it is quite possible it will remain all year long.

and let her own works praise her in the gates.
