Mini Vintage-Style Magazines

Vintage fashions are one of my passions. Nothing expresses them better than the older Vogue covers. These mini vintage-style magazines were so much fun to make. I am not selling them due to photo copyrights and I am only reprinting here for educational purposes but if you love fashion these can be a fun project to keep you inspired and easily flip to the pieces and styles you love the most. I plan to do a booklet for each decade. So far I have done the forties and fifties. As a matter of fact this would work for any subject of favor or even your grandkids' photos. It's basically a mini album. But it is my love of the vintage pieces and covers that spawned the idea. When I saw the 1956 Vogue cover above I just had to do something crafty with it (I have also made a matted print just for me, not selling, but that's another blog).

I simply picked some favorites online and arranged them on a page in Photoshop about 3.25 x 2.5 (that was random, just the best fit for the paper sized at 8.5 x 11 for printing). Then I cut them out. I made pages double the size, enough to place the photos on out of white cardstock. I made a cover front and back the same way, also out of cardstock. I stapled the blank pages onto the cover.

I "aged" each photo and page and cover with distress ink around the edges and dabbing and smearing lightly with a paper towel onto the photo print surfaces. I used black on some, brown on others. Along with some favorite fashion pics, I sprinkled in a few vintage advertisements.

I then glued the cutout photos onto the pages. After everything was done and in place, I laminated the covers and each page for durability and sheen.

They are so simple and fun to make. Again, they cannot be used for re-sale but make beautiful personal keepsakes of your favorite fashions. What is your favorite decade of fashion? I bet you come up with a beautiful layout for all of your favorites. Let me know how it went!

Thanks for joining me.
