Make Your Own Wax Chips
The smell of scented wax chips wafting through the home is one of the easiest ways to make your home smell delightful. These can be store-bought or you can easily and for no cost, make your own. These are melted in the burners usually with a tealight candle below and a container on the top for the melted wax.
Throughout the year, save your candle wax as it melts in the burning candle. Pour it off frequently into small bathroom-size Dixie cups or the mold of your choice. You may also use the mini ice-cube trays. If you use anything other than a paper cup, you will need to grease it first with Crisco or cooking grease so that later it will slip out easily, otherwise just tearing off the paper cup later will reveal the wax.
As soon as you pour off the melted hot wax, add your scent. This may be done later if you want to melt it back down with a double-boiler or microwave but it is easier to do it as you go. Pick one scent per container and try to use the same scent of the original candle if possible as will will still have a faint scent but not enough for another round. Add your scented oil.
You may pour layers onto each layer of wax as it dries. It does not matter if it is not the same color if the previous layer has dried, the new layer will dry on top of it.
When you are ready to make your wax chips simply tear the paper off the cup or loosen from your mold. Slice into tiny cubes.
They are ready to add to your wax-burner.
Store in a baggie or wrap and ties with a ribbon for an easy holiday gift. Oils such as peppermint, cloves, cinnamon, will make the best holiday chips.
