Searching for Treasures and Finding Vintage Buttons
One can never have enough supplies and I am always on the lookout for vintage items to use in my designs. While searching for treasures today, I found some nifty threads and beads but hit the jackpot on vintage buttons! There is a little store I go to called The White Elephant and where previously they had some small stock of vintage buttons (of which most I had purchased), today they had an entire drawer full. It was vintage heaven!
I brought home these almost creamy peach and pink tones and the various shades of white to off-white. Most look like they would date from the 1940s-50s though I suspect there are some that are older. I will be returning to stock up on more colors. Some look to be mother of pearl and I am not sure that a few are not ivory. Most people are really very unaware of the rarity of the styles and materials of vintage buttons so they do not keep them or price them high. I love buttons and I love to decorate with buttons. I use them on my decorative jars for home decor and I use them as closures on handbags or as decoration on headwarmers. These will be put to good use. It was a bountiful button day!
If you are on the hunt for vintage buttons, check your local thrift store or yard sales, and estate sales sadly, are usually a good bet to find old buttons.
Sharing the beauty,
Cheryl B.
